Find a location to set up camp, pitch a tent and build a campfire. The area has 3 lakes and are heavily forested. Rent a RV or camper or bring your own. A power generator for appliances in the camper and electricity for your campsite if needed. Review things you brought along to be sure you didn’t forget anything. Minnewaska State Park has 10 hiking trails to choose from. Hiking is something to be admired about this adventure. Has fifty miles of foot trails and a heavily wooded area. There are rock cliffs and clear streams. Cell phone connection may not be available in some areas. A set of walkie talkies would be ideal as replacement. A camera for awesome photos is a must. Take long hikes or a casual Strole. A bike would be perfect for riding on trails. Biking only allowed on designated carriage trails. Horseback riding would be a good idea also. Perfect place to have a picnic and picnic tables are usually at parks. Get insect repellent for flying insects. Get a hammock and relax and read a book.
Bring your fishing poles and there are many kinds of fish to catch. Cook on a campfire or grill for dinner. Can use a non-sticking grilling basket over the campfire for cooking. Wash plates in a tub of soapy water and a second tub with rinse water. Many kinds of animals in the woods and you don’t want them coming into your camp looking for food. Try not to leave food out while your away from camp or while people are sleeping at night. Canoeing or kayaking can be a lot of fun. Boating on a river has strong currents and rapids. A lake has deep water and wearing a life jacket is a good idea on the water. Can go scuba diving or snorkeling. There is a beach at the park. Take a swim on hot summer days. At night the water feels warmer than daytime swimming. Go tubing or rafting and enjoy the day on the water. The park has several waters falls throughout the area.
There are adult and kids’ games that can be played. Corn hole, ring toss, and horseshoes are popular games. Playgrounds are usually at parks. Can tell campfire stories and play cards. Play frisbee, football or play catch with a ball and glove. At night can use a telescope for stargazing or spot constellations. Kids can play laser tag at night and is a lot of fun. Pet policy-dogs only and must be on a leash and accompanied at all times. Signs posted in areas where your pet isn’t allowed. Please clean up after your dog properly.
