Burkesville, KY 42717 (270) 433-7431 A nice place to take a vacation. A good idea to review things to bring on your vacation. Find a location to set up a campsite. Build a campfire and pitch your tent. A cooler for food and beverages kept cold. There is a $25.00 entree fee. There facilities offer a 145-site campground. Grills are located at all campsites. A RV or camper with a generator for power if there are no hook ups available. The Mary Ray Oaken Lodge has 60 guest rooms with a balcony and patio overlooks a 28,000-acre lake and surrounding woodlands. A pool at the lodge for swimming and activities. There are 5 wooden cottages and 5 wooden cottages in the area. At Dale Hollow State Park there are 58 miles of hiking trails and 11,500 acres of wilderness. There are many trails to choose from. Can hike to eagle point overlook. On a long hike someone could have a backpack for a temporary camp and continue hiking the next day. A good idea to have good sole cushioned boots or sneakers on any hike. A canteen to have cold water to drink along the way on your hike. Explore the underground wonders of Cindy cave. There is a fee, and you will get wet and dirty. Scheduled tours are from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Cell phone connection may not be available in some areas. A set of walkie talkies would be a good substitute in that situation. A camera brought for awesome photos of your vacation to look at later. A canoe, kayak is lots of fun on a lake or river. Paddle around the lake and enjoy the day. Wear life jackets is a good idea for safety purposes. There are water activities such as water skiing and wind sailing that are popular. Float on a lake in an innertube or raft. Bring your fishing poles as there are many species of fish to be caught. A Kentucky fishing license is required. Fish from a boat or from along the shore. Any fish caught bring back to your camp and cook over the fire or grill for dinner. There are many animals in the forest and the smell of food attracts them. Wash your dishes in a couple containers, one with soapy water and the other with rinse water. Try not to leave food out while your away from the camp and at night when people are sleeping. Take long walks in the woods on a path or a trail. Have a picnic as there are picnic tables at the park. Jogging and bicycle riding are fun activities. Can play board games and cards. Corn hole, ring toss, and horseshoes. Throw a football or frisbee around. Play catch with a ball and glove. A short walk from the campsite to an 18-hole golf course. There are playgrounds at the park for kids. At night kids can play laser tag and hide and seek. Look at the stars with a telescope and constellations. Skip stones in a river or lake. There is horseback riding and mountain biking. An 18-hole mini golf course with water flowing throughout with bridges that allow you to cross a stream and sink your putt. Pet Policy- There are 2 pets allowed up to 50lbs with an additional fee of $30 per stay in lodge rooms. Pets must be crated if left unattended in their room. Thank you for this thorough and interesting article Jeff about camping in the Dale Lake Hollow State Park KY. You have picked the right time of year to review these sort of areas with campgrounds as the weather is perfect for it and I’ve never been to Kentucky but this looks like the exact kind of place that I would enjoy.
I like hearing that they have spots for camper trailers and RVs and with such a big lake one would think there would be ample opportunity to go fishing and boating if that’s the kind of thing that you like. I would really be able to make use of all the hiking trails as well in order to meet all of my “move” goals while I’m there so that my phone doesn’t think I’m a slacker!
