Cowan Lake State Park camping

Review things to bring so you don’t forget anything. Locate a place to set up your campsite. Build a campfire and pitch your tent. A cooler with food and beverages kept cold. A RV-camper with a generator in case there are no power hook ups available. There are 254 campsites available. Cabins to rent and lodging in the area.

             At Cowan State Park there are 1775 acres of land for hiking and other activities. There are several small trails at the park. A canteen for cold water to drink anywhere hiking. Mountain bike riding and jogging are popular.                                                                                    Cell phone connection may not be available in some areas. Bug repellent would be good to have as mosquitoes are a nuisance. A campfires smoke helps keep flying insects away from the camp.                                                                                                                                               Canoe, Kayak, are lots of fun and you can paddle around the lake to any location. Water skiing and wind sailing are a blast. Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular.                                                    Bring your fishing poles a there are several species of fish to catch. Can fish from a boat or along the shore. Have a cookout back at the camp and cook fish over the campfire or grill for dinner.                                                                                                                                          Wash the dishes in a couple containers, one with soapy water and the other with rinse water. Many species of animals in the woods that can smell food from a distance. dishes kept clean cuts the smell of food. Try to keep food stored while your away from the camp and at night when people are sleeping.                                                                    A 1000-foot public beach is located on the southern lake shore. Lay out on the beach and get a suntan on hot summer days and then take a dip in the water to cool off. Swim at night and the water feels warmer. An innertube or raft for lots of fun at the lake.                                                                                                                                        There are activities such as corn hole, ring toss, and horseshoes. Play catch with a football or frisbee. Throw around a ball and catch with a glove. Groups of people can play volleyball and soccer on the beach.                                                                                                             Take long walks in the woods and enjoy the view on paths or trails. Have a picnic as there are picnic tables at the park. Lay on a hammock to relax and read a book.                                                                   There are playgrounds at the park for the kids. at night they can play laser tag and hide and seek. Throw stones and try to skip them along the surface of the lake. Have a telescope and look at the stars and constellations.                                                                            Pet policy- dogs are allowed at the park including the 4-mile hiking trails and in the campgrounds. Dogs are not allowed in the water. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet long and cleaned up after.
