211 East Walker Rd. Yerington (775) 463-1609 Looking for a place to take a vacation away from your everyday things. Then you may have found the location that you have been looking for. Review things to bring along so you don’t forget anything. Walker lake is a place that should be enjoyed by people of all ages. Has a variety of recreational activities including swimming. picnicking, boating, bird watching, and camping. The 30,000-acre, 12 mile long by 5-mile-wide lake has a shoreline that varies from steep and rocky on the west side to sandy beaches on its east side. Approximately 38,000 acres in size. Has at least one trail at 16.5 miles long that takes 9 hours and 20 minutes to complete. This trail is great for backpacking hiking and running. Can set up a temporary overnight camp and continue hiking the next day. Wear boots or sneakers with good cushion soles on the trails. Have a canteen with cold water to drink along the way on your hikes. Mountain bike riding, ATV, Horseback riding, walking and jogging are popular activities. There may not be cell phone activity in some areas. Set of walkie talkies would be a good substitute for groups of campers. Have a camera to take awesome photos of the scenery to look at later. Insect repellent for those nasty mosquitoes. Campfires smoke helps keep flying insects away from your campsite. Have a first aid kit in case ever needed. Have a canoe or kayak to paddle around the lake and look at the scenery and enjoy the day. Wear life jackets for safety purposes. Water ski and windsailing are very popular. Scuba diving and snorkeling are lots of fun. Boating on a river has strong currents and rapids that can tip over your boat. Bring your fishing poles and there are many species of fish in the lake. Can fish from a boat or from along the shore. There are cutthroat trout, lahontan redside, Tahoe sucker, to be caught in the lake. Take your catch back to the campsite to cook over the campfire or grill for dinner. Wash your dishes in a couple containers, one with soapy water and the other with rinse water. There are many species of animals in the area that can smell your food from a distance and come to your camp hungery. Washing the dishes cuts the smell of food and you have clean dishes. Try not to leave the food out while away from the campsite or at night when people are sleeping. Storing the food in a car helps keep the animals away from the food. Lay out in the sun on hot summer days and get a suntan and then take a dip in the water to cool off. Take a swim at night and the water feels warmer. Water ski and wind sailing are lots of fun.
