? Why Visit Bash Bish Falls?

Bash Bish Falls is more than just a beautiful sight — it’s an experience. Surrounded by lush forests, steep cliffs, and tranquil trails, the falls are easily accessible yet feel wonderfully wild. And because the area is right on the state line, it’s managed cooperatively by Massachusetts’ Bash Bish Falls State Park and New York’s Taconic State Park, offering hiking and picnic opportunities on both sides.

? How to Get There & Hike to the Falls

There are two main ways to reach the falls — one from the Massachusetts side and one from the New York side.

? From the MA Trailhead

  • Parking: Bash Bish Falls State Park lot at the end of Falls Road in Mount Washington, MA.
  • Distance: ~0.3 miles (one way)
  • Difficulty: Short but very steep and rocky, with steps and railings in sections.
  • Experience: This is the shortest route to the falls — expect a quick but strenuous hike.

? From the NY Trailhead

  • Parking: Taconic State Park lot in Copake Falls, NY.
  • Distance: ~1.5 miles (one way)
  • Difficulty: Moderate — a longer, more gradual ascent.
  • Experience: This route follows a scenic creek and is more family-friendly than the steep MA trail.

Both trails meet at the base of the falls, where you can enjoy the view from a stone platform and take plenty of photos.
