Franklin St. Watkins Glen, N.Y. 14891 (607) 535-4511 Looking for a place to take a vacation away from your everyday things. Then you may have found the place you’re wanting to visit. Review things to bring along so you don’t forget anything. At Watkins Glen State Park is in the village of Watkins Glen, south of Seneca Lake Schuyler County in New York’s finger Lakes Region. The parks’ lower part is near the village, while the upper part is open woodland. Locate a place to set up your campsite. Look for a place to set your campsite. Build a campfire and pitch your tent on flat ground. Have an Rv-camper with a generator in case there are no power hook-ups available. Can maybe rent a cabin and there may be lodging in the area. The park features 3 trails, open from mid-May to early November. Someone can climb or descend the gorge. The southern end and Indian Trails run along the gorge’s wooded rim, while the gorge trail is closest to the stream and runs over, under and along the park’s 19 waterfalls by way of stone bridges and more than 800 steps. The trails connect to the Finger Lakes Trail, an 800-mile system of trails within New York State. Plan ahead of which trails you would like to go trail hiking on. Have boots or sneakers that have good, cushioned soles for any trail hiking. Canteen with cold water to drink along the way on you trail hiking adventure. Can go backpacking and set up a temporary overnight camp and continue your hiking the next day. Mountain bike riding, ATV, horseback riding, walking and jogging are popular. There may not be any cell phone connection available in some areas. Walkie talkies would be a good substitute for campers to communicate with their camping group. Have a camera to take awesome photos of the scenery to look at later. Insect repellent for those nasty mosquitoes. Campfires help keep flying insects away from your campsite. Have a first aid kit in case ever needed. Have a canoe or kayak to paddle around the lake or river and look at the sights. Wear a life jacket for safety purposes. Water ski and wind sailing are popular activities. Scuba diving and snorkeling are lots of fun. Boating on a river has strong currents and rapids can tip over your boat. Bring your fishing poles as there are many species of fish to be caught. Can fish from a boat or from along the shore. Seneca Lake has many species of fish to be caught such as lake trout, rainbow trout, salmon, smallmouth bass, pike, yellow perch, brown trout, largemouth bass, pan fish. Seneca Lake is cluke park in Watkins Glen, with public boat ramps and ample bank access, including a fishing pier and jetties. Nearby Seneca Harbour offers additional access, docking and launch facilities. There is 10 more Finger Lakes with good to outstanding opportunities to catch just about every major freshwater species that swims in New York. Take your catch back to the campsite to have a cookout over the campfire or grill for dinner. Wash your dishes in a couple containers, one with soapy water and the other with rinse water. Washing your dishes cuts the smell of food and you have clean dishes. Try not to leave your food out while away from the campsite and at night when people are sleeping. There are many species of animals in the area that can smell food from a distance and come to your campsite hungry. Storing food in your vehicle helps keep your food away from the animals. Lay out in the sun on hot summer days and get a suntan and then take a dip in the water to cool off. Take a swim in the water at night and the water feels warmer. Have an innertube or raft to play around in the water and enjoy the day. Can float downstream on a river on the current and look at the scenery and enjoy the day. There are many activities such as corn hole, ring toss, and horseshoes. Play a board game or cards. Throw around a football or frisbee. Play catch with a ball and glove. Play softball against another group of campers. There are playgrounds for the kids to play on and water parks at some parks. They can play laser tag at night and hide and seek. Have a telescope to look at the stars and constellations. Can skip stones on a lake or river. Can have a picnic on a blanket or at the picnic table. take long walks on paths or trails and look at the scenery. Lay on a hammock to relax and maybe read a book. Groups of campers can play volleyball or soccer. Pet Policy- Leashed dogs are allowed on the outer rim trails but not on the Gorge Trail. The entrance to the park is right on main street in Watkins Glen. Dogs should have no longer than 6 foot leash and must not be left unattended. Please clean up after your pet. Well, this time we have a very beautiful village. The location this time is at Watkins Glen State Park is in the village of Watkins Glen, south of Seneca Lake Schuyler County in New York’s finger Lakes Region. I really liked the nature and the photos posted in the blog and I fell in love with this place.
I thought you might like this article. This is a really nice place to visit and has like 19 waterfalls in the area. Also, in the finger lakes region that is a nice place. I’m from a little more than an hour away from this location where I’m at. Definite an awesome place to take a week or two at.

Hello! good to hear from you. This location definite has many things and would be an ideal place for people to camp at. The Finger Lakes region is very nice and there are many things’ people can do there. Yes, that many waterfalls and trail hiking in that area would be lots of fun. I like the location myself a lot. I’m from near Watkins Glen like under 2 hours away and have been through there a few times.

Hello! This place is definite a good spot to take a vacation at. The finger Lakes region as a whole is a spectacular area to go camping and fishing and many other things. I camped a Lake Keuka for a couple weeks and was memorable. Have been to Watkins Glen and is a beautiful area. You would have to have a N.Y. state fishing license. You can call them at (607) 535-4511 for any questions you need to know things about. You can look up online Finger Lakes tributaries and special regulations and has things listed someone can look at for their need-to-know things. Has dates and kinds of fish and size and how many of a certain species someone can catch. I would give them a call to be sure about things as sometimes rules or need to know things may change. There are certain areas for to bring pets for recreation spots. I’d imagine they have trails that don’t allow ATV and other motorized vehicles. There are some areas there allowed at the park.
We always go camping with my son and my granddaughter during the school holidays, and Watkins Glen State Park sounds like the perfect destination if we want to explore New York’s finger Lakes Region. There seems to be lots of activities like mountain bike riding and canoeing that can be included during the camping trip.

Also, the Finger Lakes area in which includes Watkins Glen and other places is a real nice area for camping and hiking, boating and more. There are many lakes in the region, and I have been at lake Keuka for boating and fishing. The Finger Lakes is a beautiful area.
