Harriman State Park N.Y. State
UncategorizedGreetings, I’m Jeff and this is my camping site. I have camped for many years on and off. Harriman State Park Seven Lakes Dr. Ramapo, N.Y.10974 (845) 947-2444 A camping adventure at Harriman State Park would be a good place for someone to take a vacation or weekend get a way. Rent or bring an RV or camper for a relaxing time. Bring a solar power generator for electrical needs. Find a location near a river or lake and set up camp and pitch a tent. Depending on how many are going to decide how many tents to bring. There are cabins in the area as well as lodging. Build a campfire and bring a cooler with food and beverages. Have a picnic and take long walks. Picnic tables in some areas to eat at. Review items you bring along with you, so you don’t forget anything. There are dozens of hiking trails in this park. Average trails from 6 to 10 miles long. Elk Pen is a 32-mile-long trail and takes about 16 hours to hike the trail. For those wanting to go on a long hike that could take a few days and backpack from the camp. Would need to set up a temporary camp along the way per night. Someone would want to plan ahead for this camping experience. Plan what trails to hike and choose when you arrive. Wear cushioned soles sneakers or boots. A canteen to keep water cold for any hike. A camera for awesome photos about your camping adventure. There may not be cell phone connection in some areas. A walkie talky would be a good replacement in this situation. Biking is also a fun thing and many trails or places someone can ride.
Canoeing or kayaking could be a lot of fun on a lake. On a river be careful about currents or rapids. Wear a life jacket is suggested. There are lots of fish in a river or lake. Fish from a boat or on land is fun. Take back to camp for a meal later. Tell campfire stories and roast marshmallows. Take a dip in the water on a hot summer day. A swimming beach is at the park. Tubing can be lots of fun on water. A motorboat for water skiing is a blast. Many games could be played by adults or kids. Any board game or cards. Corn hole, ring toss, and Horseshoes can be played. Take a swim at night and the water feels warmer. Kids can play laser tag, skip stones, play tag and frisbee and many more things. Playgrounds at some places are available. Play catch with a football or baseball and glove. At night could star gaze with a telescope and look at constellations. Lay on a hammock and read a book.
There are lots of animals in the area. Any bear encounters should be reported to Park Police (845) 786-2781.Try not to leave food out while away from camp or a night while people are sleeping. Be aware of your surroundings. Wash dishes in a couple small tubs. One with soapy water and the other with rinsing water. Having clean plates and may cut down on attracting animals to the camp site. Wintertime events at park include cross country skiing, snowshoeing. Pets-dogs are only allowed and must be on a leash and display a rabies tag. Some areas are restricted and should have a sign. These are some of the things needed for camping and ideas about camping. Leave a message if you like. Enjoy your camping adventure wherever you decide to go camping. Jeff http://my-camping-sites.com
