Review items you bring to be sure you don’t forget anything. Find a location to set up the campsite. Build a campfire and pitch a tent. Bring a cooler with food and beverages. A rv-camper would be good also to set up a camp. Some places have power hook ups. Have a generator for the camper if there isn’t a power supply. Cabins and lodging are available in the area. At Indian River Lagoon there are about 2,100 plant species. The lagoon has 2,200 animal species. Hosts the largest nesting concentration of horseshoe crabs in Florida. Has trails to hike on and jogging and bicycling are popular activities. Wear good sneakers or boots with decent cushion for your feet. May not have cell phone connection in some areas. I have found walkie talkies to be a good substitution. A camera for awesome photos to look at later. Insect repellent may be a good idea to have as there could be lots of mosquitos and other insects. Smoke from a campfire helps keep flying insects away from the campsite. Having a lantern at night is good to have to walk around. Lay on the beach and get a suntan and on hot summer days and take a dip in the water to cool off. A hammock to lay in to relax could be a good idea. Canoe, kayak, and boating can be lots of fun. Tubing and rafting are a blast and would be fun in the lagoon or a river. Scuba diving and snorkeling are fun. Rent or bring a motorboat for water skiing. Bring your fishing poles as there are many species of fish in the lagoon or the ocean. After you catch fish for the day you can go back to camp and cook over the campfire or grill for dinner. Get a couple containers to wash your dishes in soapy water and another container for rinsing. There are animals in the area and can smell food a long way away. Try not to leave food out while away from the camp or at night when people are sleeping. Clean dishes cut back on the smell that attracts animals to your camp.
Take long walks in the woods on paths or a trail. Have a picnic and there are picnic tables at the park. Some of the activities you may like while camping. There are playgrounds at the park for kids. Throw a frisbee around or play catch with a ball and glove. Play board games or play cards. Play corn hole, ring toss, and horseshoes are popular. Volleyball and softball games with lots of players is always fun.
Pets are not allowed on beaches of playgrounds or in bathing areas, cabins, park buildings or concession facilities. Pets must be kept on a hand leash shorter than 6 feet and must be behaved at all times. For more up to date information, contact park directly.
