(252) 438-7791 Looking for a place to take a vacation away from your usual everyday things. Then you might have found the location your looking for to have fun or just relax. Review things you want to bring with you so you don’t forget anything. Kerr Lake campsite has 98 campground sites (61 with 30 amp electric hook ups) and is located in the Satterwhite point area next to Kerr Lake. Sites with hookups include 23, 25, 27-65 and 80-103. several campsites are water front and most are quite large. Accessible and group campsites are available. Some of the campground amenities include drinking water (spigots), flush toilets, showers and dump station. There is also firewood for sale from the camp host. Each site has a fire ring, and grate. The park has an amphitheater, playground, boat ramp, marina, store, picnic area/ shelter and visitor center. Locate a place to set up your campsite. Build your campsite and pitch your tent on flat ground. Have a cooler with food and beverages kept chilled. An Rv-camper with a generator in case there are no power hook-ups available. Can maybe rent a cabin and there may be lodging in the area. There are several small hiking trails available to choose from. Have a pair of boots or sneakers with good cushion soles for any trail hiking. A canteen with cold water to drink along your hiking adventure. Mountain bike riding, ATV, horseback riding, walking and jogging are popular. There may not be cell phone connection available in some areas. Set of walkie talkies would be a good substitute for groups of campers to communicate with each other. Have a camera to take photos of the awesome scenery to look at later. Campfires help keep flying insects away from your campsite. Have a first aid kit in case ever needed. There are many species of animals in the area. There are eastern coyotes and bears to be knowing about. There rarely seen but its good to know about them. If you encounter a bear its best to give the bear plenty of space to avoid any direct contact. Don’t approach or feed the bears. The bears have a real good sense and smell and would be wise to store food properly away from the bears. Have a canoe or kayak to paddle around the lake, explore coves and look at the scenery and enjoy the day. wear a life jacket for safety purposes. You can bring your own boat or rent one from the marinas around the lake. There is water skiing, jetskiing, tubing, motorboating, sailing, pontoon boating. remember to adhere to boating regulations and safety guidelines. Bring your fishing poles as there are many species of fish to be caught at the lake. Can fish from a boat or from along the shore. The lake is home to various fish species such as bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, blueback herring, American shad, and more. Take your catch back to the campsite and have a cookout over the campfire or grill for dinner. Wash your dishes in a couple containers, one with soapy water and the other with rinse water. Washing your dishes cuts the smell of food and you have clean dishes. There are many species of animals in the woods that can smell your food from a distance and come to your campsite hungry. try not to leave your food out while your away from the campsite or when people are sleeping at night. Storing your food in a vehicle helps keep animals away from your food. Lay out in the sun on hot summer days and get a suntan and then take a dip in the water to cool off. Take a swim at night and the water feels warmer. Have an innertube or raft and play around in the water or just relax. Swimmers should be cautious and be aware of there swimming capabilities. There are activities such as ring toss, corn hole, and horseshoes. Play a board game or cards. Throw around a football or frisbee. Play catch with a ball and glove. Groups of campers can play softball or baseball. There are playgrounds at the park for the children to play on. They can play laser tag and hide and seek at night. Have a telescope to look at the stars and constellations. Organize a fun scavenger hunt for the kids, encouraging them to explore and discover the natural features of the campground areas. can skip stones on a river or lake.Have a picnic on a blanket or at the picnic table. Take long walks on paths or trails and look at the scenery. Can lay on a hammock to relax and maybe read a book. Groups of campers can play volleyball or soccer. Prepare an easy assortment of easy to eat foods that don’t require ant utensil use. sandwiches, fruits, salads, and finger foods are a great option. Don’t forget to pack some drinks and refreshing water. Don’t forget to have sunscreen, hats, sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun’s ray’s. Pet Policy- Pets are allowed at the park and campsites. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and must not be left unattended at any time. Please clean up after your dog.
